Today’s Newspaper is Tomorrow’s Wastepaper: Opinion Page

There were never days without reading newspapers in our home. A vernacular Newspaper and an English Newspaper would always have a place on the tea table of every house in our neighbourhood. Children would be advised to read the opinion pages of the English newspaper to understand the nuances of the literature written by intellectual minds of the day. Opinions of personalities like Ms. Sevanti Ninan and Mr. ManmohanSingh would be debated in classrooms. Now news no longer holds its position, it is rather replaced with paparazzi and defaming communication that rattles the brain every day. Now people have to run to high mountains and have gadget free and smart phone free vacations to relieve themselves of the information overload that they face every day. Now children should be allowed to be bored sometimes, so that they can also be freed from the clutches of video game addiction and Television mania. We cannot ignore what is happening around the world. It is a crime to be ignorant these days and ignorance of news will soon turn counterproductive. Every individual is entitled to have an opinion of his/her own on a news article or an everyday life event. Banning of sensory perception is against the constitution of India and every citizen of India has the right to be vocal about their opinion with a certain limitation, so that it does not affect the sentiments of fellow citizens. Hopefully the effort to voice out my opinion on issues that are affecting every day lives of normal citizens like me are to start from today. Watch out for daily opinions on this Proactive Homemaker blog.
